The following has been released by the VSA:
"WORLD FIRST FOR SQUASH
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Construction of the world's first ever portable glass squash court,
which has the capacity to change from singles to doubles mode, commenced
in the Table Tennis Stadium at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre
on Thursday, 15 December.

The court has been specifically built by German company, ASB, for the
2006 Commonwealth Games Squash Competition, plus 2 major international
events prior to the Games - the 2005 Australian Open Singles
Championships and the 2006 World Doubles Championships.

Construction of the court is due for completion on Sunday, 18 December,
with the court's inaugural event being the Australian Open Championships
on 3-7 January, followed by the World Doubles Championships on 9-13
January.

The court will remain standing through to the completion of the
Commonwealth Games, and the stadium will have a seating capacity for
2,000 patrons.

The Australian Open Championships will feature Australia's top 20 male
and female players - including the past two British Open Champions,
David Palmer and Anthony Ricketts, as well as World No.1, Rachael
Grinham.

The World Doubles Championships has attracted capacity draws with 16
teams from 11 countries, in each of the men's, women's and mixed events,
with many Commonwealth nations using this event as their final warm-up
to the Commonwealth Games Doubles events.

Further great news for the sport is that 5-times World Open Champion,
Sarah Fitz-Gerald, announcing her return to international competition in
the World Doubles Championships, partnering former Australian
representative, Robyn Cooper, in the Women's event.
