Hi all, just have a question. lets say I serve the ball, it hits the front wall first, then the side wall, then the back wall and lands at the back of the court behind the T. my opponent is ready to hit the ball and i'm standing at the T. is this a stroke? I would think it is, but someone once told me a few years ago that if the ball ever hits the back wall, it can't be a stroke and must be a let.

hi baneling
the back wall has nothing to do with it.
you need to provide the returner with a clear path to the front wall (for the ball that is), otherwise it would be a stroke.
there are two exceptions:
- where the player has made a prior attempt to hit the ball (either missed it or did not complete the shot)
- where the returner hit it into the side or back wall first
in these two cases it would be a let

I've seen this in pro squash all the time and the player just hit the ball anyways and didn't ask for a let/stroke. if its a stroke, why don't they ask for it? plus, a player can get into the same situation when they ask for a let cause they turned. why is that a let and not a stroke?
