Thanks
Norman

Hi Get_behind_it
I found NIck's suggestion ver helpful, but as he indicated it takes timing and some getting used to. Thanks for the added suggestion from yourself I will try to improve my return with your ideas, very much appreciated

The Relevant Content tab has plenty of good reading without me adding to that. (See top lefthand column)

Hi Norman,
I wonder how you've been using Nick Hunter's suggestion to Volley the serve.
I've had the same problem in the past and all experiential advise is welcome to me; as for me, I have two points I try to remember while volleying the much dreaded deep lob serve:
1. Try and get some action on the ball while dropping it, don't just poke at it.
2. Keep the racket back which makes my chest to face the back corner, this helps me to lift the racket and get it in position to undercut the ball as it falls down to about my shoulder height.
Quite enjoy playing this shot once its superb rhythm has been found.
I always drop the ball straight, even if my oppenent aticipates the shot I feel that there is a difficulty in picking this return which keeps me well in the point. With this backhand return, I position myself a step to the left centre of the court, getting good visibility of my mighty opponent's racket.
Ciao.

Don't let the lob serve drop into the back corner. Volley it before it drops. It'll be tricky at first but just keep doing it. If the serve heads into the sidewall early then hit it just after it comes off the sidewall.
