Squash Australia reports:
Kasey Brown’s bid to become the first Australian woman to win the US Open squash tournament since 2006 ended when she was beaten in four games by England’s Laura Massaro in Philadelphia on Thursday.
The sixth seeded Brown started the match in spectacular style as she raced away with the first game and dominated the tall Englishwoman.
But the fifth ranked Massaro turned the tables on Brown in the second and played some brilliant squash as she took the next three games to wrap up the match 5-11, 11-5, 11-3, 11-5.
“Kasey came out strong in the first and I just couldn’t get in front of her,” Massaro said.
“She was putting me under pressure and I was making mistakes.
“It was the sort of match where whoever got in front (on the court) was winning, so I really had to work on it to get in front from the second game.”
Despite the loss Brown will take enormous heart from the tournament.
She defeated world number one Nicol David in the quarter-finals and world number four Madeline Perry in the semis and will head into the Qatar Classic later this month full of confidence.
The men’s final was won by Egyptian Amr Shabana, who beat a fatigued Nick Matthew of England 11-9, 8-11, 11-2, 11-4.
