Rachael Grinham and Kasey Brown both moved into the quarter-finals of the KL Open squash tournament in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday but third seed Cameron Pilley suffered a shock loss to French qualifier Gregoire Marche.

Grinham, the fifth seed from Toowoomba in Queensland, was kept on court for 70 minutes before finally subduing the challenge of rising Malaysian star Low Wee Wern 11-5, 11-4, 6-11, 9-11, 11-6.

She now goes onto face third seeded Englishman Alison Waters in the quarter-finals.

Brown has the daunting task of taking on world number one Nicol David after the 25-year-old from Taree beat in-form Englishwoman Laura Massaro.

Massaro had defeated David in their last meeting and went into her clash with Brown as slight favourite, but the Australian showed just how much she has improved in the past 12 months with an 11-8, 7-11, 11-9, 15-13 win in 65 minutes.
