Our apologies for the problems that casued our site to go down over the past 24 - 36 hours. We could not immediately get to the root of the problem which caused the php engine to close down.
The problems were caused in the main by our increasing popularlity creating a domino effect with one of the scripts. Whilst everything is working fine for now, I still need to do some more work to ensure the problem never happens again.
if you ever have problems with the site, do not hesitate to contact us at "admin at squashgame dot info"
cheers

Still site problems happening. Some of the Gear Archive articles will not open...more jobs for Raystrach to chase up.

no mike i am aware of xdebug but have not used it.
the problem was some external calls that were being made and backing up.
because we are on a shared server, the number of processes allowed is limited. when the external calls take some time to resolve, it doesn't take long for things to get out of hand.
i am in the process of reducing those external calls significantly.
thanks for the tip.

Extra load will make any performance issues more accute. Have you ever used Xdebug to profile the code? Can be useful to see where the time goes.
