well, here I am back in sunny queensland after two weeks of masters squash in melbourne.I would like to describe the weather there but I don't have enough time.Lets just say varied. My trip this year confirmed various things to me.Firstly, masters squash comprises one of the largest groups in squash.secondly,.numbers were as good as ever. This was particularly evident at the teams event dinner dance with a fantastic attendance at the Etihad stadium.3.Thirdly,point a rally would be about as popular with 99% of masters players as a stinkbomb in a rush hour train. It certainly gives pause for thought about attending  the Worlds in Cologne next year where point a rally will be the norm.It could mean a round the world trip for 30 minutes squash in total(3 matches)I will be interested in feedback from the World Games in Sydney to see how things go.

Hi Rita  Don´t get me wrong, the Worldmasters Squash IS a three plate event, buty even so if you strike it lucky in the first round maybe a twenty minute match.Second match,a seed so out in 15 minutes, third match plate event,if the other guy is interested 20 minutes at PAR so a grand total of 45minutes squash for an outlay of approximately 6000 dollars with spouse.I speak of worst case scenario for average players, especially in older groups. My suggestion?Break up qualifying round into round robins of 5,thus guaranteeing 4 matches before the main draw, anything after that would be a bonus. Also round robins are not eliminatory so you get a second chance if you have a bad hair day.

Yep, that is the problem if tournaments do not have consolation plate events.  How many times do players train their pants off all year, take a trip, pay accommodation, and get done in three games by the top seeded players.  Then, what?  Of course, some tournaments do have Open, A Grade, B Grade etc with one plate event which means you might get two matches (never mind about what scoring it is if you get done in three). I think when a tournament tries to attract large numbers who travel at great expense all events should have three consolation plate events which will also sort out the seedings a lot better as well and giving players at least four matches (or a match a day minimum). That also requires extra organisation and courts as well as the use of outside venues which create more problems for the host club.

It seems to me that the AMSA needs to have a representative on the International Masters Committee.  If there is no such Committee there is a missing link in the World Masters organisation.

PS - Of course some players might only go for the ride and be happy to socialise and sightsee for the rest of the time, and then forfeits might also be a problem once a player gets knocked out of the main event.  Always something..............
