So squash has all this going for it, eg all weather, sun safe, quick work-out, burns calories, gives a total body work out in less than an hour, not too expensive, improves well being, socially interactive, exercise helps depression, and still gets no recognition when it comes to our health and fitness and obesity crisis facing the world.
One has to smile as every day you turn on the Tele and we have programs like "The Biggest Losers", the Govt offering grants to help children get more exercise, and headlines about the obesity crisis, and it goes on and on. If schools built a squash court, or the kids went to the courts as part of their after/before school care and played games (any sort of games, be it modified or just indoor stuff) that would be a huge leap in the right direction.
Oh, no, just knock the courts down and then complain that kids are always huddled up in a corner with a blanket around 'em and play computer games, and subsequently become a couch potato. How come things do not make sense anymore. These bureaucrats get big money to make these decisions while looking at a squash centre balance sheet. When will the balance sheets of heart disease, high blood pressure, lung cancer, anti-depression/mental health costs, lap surgery, medical funds, child delinquency, street-kids, etc etc be taken into account as part of the overall decision. If the squash court establishment is tired and needs revamping what about leaving a court as part of the overall plan and facilities. No, of course not, put up cluster housing and have no sports facilities for the tennants or child care providers.
You guessed right, I feel the demolishing of courts is destruction at its worst.
