Karim rises to No. 1 and leaves Amr Shabana at No. 2 in the World Rankings. Gregory Gaultier (FRA) did well to win the Tournament of Champions but still trails at No. 3.  These guys are really pushing each other to the limit.

On the other hand in the Women's rankings, Nicol David (MAL) is streets ahead of her next rival Natalie Grinham (NED).  The WISPA points are 3542 to 1586 respectively, a huge gap. That makes it difficult for Nicol as well as she is not used to being pushed hard, and the only way for her to get some pressure matches applied would be to play the men, and that is not the same as competing in a major women's championship.

Well done Karim and Nicol.

I think Gaultier is in a good position to be pushing for the top spot. As the commentary for the psalive coverage of TOC mentioned, Gaultier's matches were basically his to win or lose. The way he was playing, he was in control most of the time, and when he was losing it was due to his errors. He was imposing his game (the good and bad) and his opponents were countering.

Gaultier has also made 4 finals in a row, winning Macau and TOC. There is a notch between the top 3 or 4 men and the rest right now.

Ramy was great against Thierry, but Nick Matthew managed to wear him down well, and he really wasn't all there in the fourth game against Nick. To wit, there was one rally where Ramy hit off the back wall, thought it'd be down and didn't bother to turn around. He looked at his feet, still facing the back and put the racquet in his left hand. He was very surprised when he turned around and the shot had been up and Nick had played it straight back to him.

Maybe it's the other WISPA players who should play the men to try and get some ideas about how to catch up with Nicol?
