Received this via the squash league I play in and thought it would be of interest to the England based forum members.
Cheers

Dear Squash Enthusiast,
England Squash is committed to promoting and serving Squash & Racketball to the best of our ability and need your help in shaping the future of both sports in England.
To help us achieve this, we have put together an online Squash & Racketball Survey to ask everyone in the sport – players, coaches, supporters, administrators, clubs, facilities, volunteers, referees and others – for their views. We would like to know what people value in their relationship with England Squash, what you’d like to improve and what new activities you would like to see.
I would be very grateful if you could spend 5-10 minutes filling out the survey, to share your views and have the chance of winning more than 50 great prizes for you and your club/facility, including VIP Tickets, coaching sessions from some of the greats in the game, rackets, apparel and balls.
You can go directly to the survey by clicking on www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=OB5om5Jq98rVnMKwX5O3oQ_3d_3d or via www.englandsquash.com
The more responses that we get, the better informed we will be. We would therefore be grateful if you could forward this email and link on to any contacts who you think may be interested.
Thanks for your continued support as we endeavour to grow the game. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Nick Rider
Chief Executive
England Squash

Rita, sorry for delay in reply but I'm just back from holidays. 2 weeks in rural Pembrokeshire in South West Wales.. Very relaxing and we had great weather but I've not played squash for over 2 weeks and am itching to get back on court tomorrow. It usually goes 2 ways when I've had such a gap - I either play a blinder or crash and burn! I hope it's the former!
Anyway, I am not surprised to hear that a Council has in effect used a bureacratic technicality to ensure that more squash courts are lost in the UK. Local councils these days are under so much pressure to plug budgetary defecits and ensure that council tax increases are kept to a minimum, or councillors will find themselves voted out of office. It's sad but the economics of squash are stacked against it in such circumstances unfortunately and I am sure that more court closures will follow, that is unless the popularity of the sport dramatically increases over the coming years.
I hope that England Squash is doing all it can to lobby local councils and the government to arrest this worrying trend in court closures.
Cheers

jimbob - the Councils say they listen to the people. Once the "fire goes out" they do just as they want and maybe that applies to Somerset.

I don't know too much about the regions and boundaries in the UK but it might just be that the pressure put on the authorities has made a difference.. well from this story it sure looks like it.

Ha ha Jim - this is music to your ears I bet.
A world class sports hub to be built in Surrey which is also opening up many employment opportunities for sports nuts. That makes sense to build the facilities attached to Universities where there is already a huge number of young people given the opportunity to play squash.
