This is a great idea to bring the sport along and keep the members interested. Here is the UK intercounties link.
When squash in this country was at its peak there was plenty of inter-club, inter-district, inter-region and interstate shield matches. This certainly brings a sport closer together, improves the standard, and creates social opportunities as well. Besides, the sport gets media coverage, the players get enthusiastic, and the organisation in general gets a spark.
Well done.

I think you mean inter-counties Rita :)
I wish there was more of this here, would certainly be a motivating force for the squash population. There are only two tournaments a year where I live.

Thanks for that Mike. I have fixed it up. Speed reading failed...and I was thinking of all our competitions we used to have in the 80's. My Brag Book sure highlights some of the shortcomings of today in our squash world. There are paper clippings of pennant results and finals with photos, major tournaments, coaching camps, country clinics, etc. which really brought the game ahead as well as increasing the player membership base. That was our bread and butter so to speak.
Just to mention one photo in the 70's where the NSW Champ in womens and mens (Cam Nancarrow, Mavis, and Jenny Irving) were brought to NQ for the Easter NQ Titles; as well as it being a compulsory tournament for State selection for the interstate champs making all our potential team contenders attend; and too boot our Qld contingent did a week tour of the NQ centres prior to the event - all the things that boost memberships and increase popularity of the sport. Mind you, all representative teams were also provided with uniforms, two weeks accommodation, and airfares as the reward.
They were the days!
