As a keen Masters Squash player, from October 1 -8 I did something different and made my way to Daisy Hill Squash Club,Brisbane to help referee the Juniors.240 individual and 130 team members converged for one of the most successful Junior Tournaments. It was both a pleasure and a priviledge to referee these young players. What has this got to do with Masters Squash?Hopefully these youngsters will have long and interesting squash careers before swelling the ranks of the ranks of Masters Squash. You only have to look at the names of previous winners to see where national and world champions come from. Each referee adjudicated up to 18 matches per day and this provided access to some of the best squash you could hope to see..It was amazing to watch the talented 13 year olds with limited physical strength apply great lofting technique to get the ball to the back of the court, and very satisfying to often see the triumph of talent and technique over a bigger stronger opponent.THe older boys and girls gave some thrilling performances where all the hours put in by them and their coaches paid off. There were long and dramatic rallies with "grooved" racket swings where the ball never unintentionally hit the side walls, and how they didn't skin their knees diving for balls that had passed them I will never know. They can also be congratulated about behaviour on court,as there was almost no dissent and only three conduct warnings as far as I know in the whole tournament, and this whilst under the strictest criteria.Another aspect was the great variety and design of the uniforms.Western Australia were voted as having the best shirts in a "wasp" theme and the official tournament shirt was also fantastic.                                    To sum it all up,great squash played in an exemplary spirit by some very talented  and promising players. The days were hot and with so many kids hardly quiet, but it was very worthwhile.I will now creak off back to Masters competition and try to reproduce the enthusiasm witnessed if not the athleticism.

Just some things,,, no Point really - :P

Some of the under 13's can actually hit a great ball, like insanely good and pretty aggresively aswell, E.g Michael badenhorst who I can train with at home; Dural!. And Also his brother chris (U15's who is a bit too far ahead of me though =( .

Has anyone ever noticed the difference between a junior competition and a Normal club tournament or similar, how there seems to be so much more effort put in?? No offence to older players, but the young run much more, and I'm sure you all would if you could.

3 conduct warnings is pretty good, Cause some of them get  really workked up about certain things, would one of the juniors have been adam brooks?-U15's? He's been calming down lately the other night, and instead of taking it out on others or the ref, its now on his racket:S, I saw it go flying over the back wall the other night during pennant, A bit extreme , but hey- That's his problem
