Yesterday I witnessed the finals of the Boys Under 19 Aust Junior Champs.
Zac's opponent Nathan Kam from NSW was so frustrated when he ran every ball down, went for every shot he knew but ended up with a 9:4; 9:0; 9:2 score. The match started with long hard rallies with each player not risking anything too much, and the more frustrated Kam got the more winners he attempted, and when your supposed winning shots come back or because of anxiousness hit the tin, the more the frustration built up. A common story in finals. All that effort for so few points can feel demoralising; Kam is a good player; more discipline, more experience coping with pressure matches will help him a lot.
To be able to keep a very cool head is paramount in important matches.
Well done boys.

Mike this court owner has really tried to spruce the place up and the courts are all different colours, pink, blue, light lemon, with different coloured tape too. Air conditioning was installed just prior to the championships (one vent not ready either in time), which is a rarity for this country. The place was packed so without the aircon it would have been an impossible temperature. All the players wore eyewear (compulsory), and the type Zac wore did not seem to worry him (more like a full shield) and he left it alone, but Kam had a type of goggle on, and several times he took them off to wipe his face and delay play slightly.
Next week we are going to use that venue for some more video shots so it will be interesting how they comes up.

Where to from here for this guy, ie the best player just leaving the junior ranks ?
What is the path for him if he is to turn pro ? Straight on the PSA tour ?
If so where would he likely to sit in the rankings ?
I would guess he is a big fish in a very tiny pond here in Aust at the moment and as such needs some solid exposure to the real squash world, yes ?
Where would he sit in world under 19 rankings for instance ?

Yeah, pressure makes all the difference.
That's a pretty leary looking court too! The line markings on the floor are not easy to see.
