It is at this time of year, during the school vacation, that most sports stage their National Junior Championships, which is a sort of grand-stand for the nation's future sports figures. The age groups spanned from Under 13 to Under 19 and hopefully this championship will snare all the talented players into the net.
Yesterday I visited the first day's matches at the Australian Junior Age and it was a full house packed with young kids, strutting their stuff; together with many parents, wondering if their siblings will "make it" through to the top.
It was good to see Referee officials, and regional coaches encouraging these players.
While for the juniors it is fun, and excitement, it is a new learning experience, where they are thrust into games against players they have never seen before, living in unfamiliar surroundings, learning to take care of their equipment, plan their diets, the first lesson in the life of a national competitor.
Well done kids.

I showed you the photo of the beginning, and yesterday it was more like the end with tired bodies lying and lounging about the floor encouraging their team mates to keep fighting.
Today is the finish of the two weeks of solid squash for the Individual and State Teams where two boys and two girls from each age group form a team and compete for the Australian Under 19/17/15/13 Team Championship trophy.
The main contenders for the final trophies will be Qld, Victoria, and ACT. Not everyone can be the winner.
I know the juniors have had some hard fought battles but by the look of the dedicated Referees and Coaches they also have had a hard week
This competition could be the making or breaking of their squash career; this event being one of Australia's important talent identification programs.
Good luck kids!
