A Navel Does Not Change

The beauty of Squash is that every game is different.
When I see dozens of health conscious lemmings in gyms walking on automated walkers usually with earphones in and watching soe mind numbing television program wth a glazed look in their eye, I feel like going up to oneof them and asking : Is that all there is to life? A power failure in a gym would see all these lemmings walk straight over the cliff edge as soon as the treadmill stopped!
Ostensibly, these people are doing this to give them a better quality of life.
Huh?! The idea of being bored witless for an hour or so isn't my idea of having a good time.
On the other hand there is Squash. It is unfortunate that there are not that many young active people playing the game in Australia, because it is ideal for busy young people who want to do something exiting. Even old fogeys like me find it incredibly challenging and always looking for something more.
An hour on the Squash court goes no where (is the hour up already?). An hour on a treadmill, well - it's a treadmill!
My recent run with injury has turned my mind to contemplation - no, not really navel gazing, as once you have had a good look, nothing really changes, apart from the fact it gets harder and harder to see over time. And it is not just poor eyesight either. It sems to be retreating into the pit of my stomach. realtively so in any case.
No, I am thinking about what motivates individuals and the factors involved in the choices they make. The cliche, "Ignorance is Bliss" I have always found to be true. In this case, is the bliss of ignorance of a game such as Squash better than the bliss of actually playing playing it?
Oh my God! I think I just found a conundrum!
I think I am calm again now, so I will continue. I played a bloke last week during a coaching session. He had been a very good player, but some health problems set him back quite a bit over a few years. He started playing again a few months back and found the going very hard. Every time he walked on court he was challenged just to keep going.
Now that he has some endurance and fitness, he can now play a tough match. He mentioed to me later that, after playing me, that he now has quite a few new things to work on. He is still being challenged. I have seen him come from a point where he did not know if he could cope with the demands of the game, and maybe even of life itself, to a point where he is looking to the future with confidence. Through the simple game of Squash.
Why do people choose the game of Squash or not. Can you affect their choice with your enthusiasm and love of the game?
I encourage every Squashgame.info reader to go out and spread the word about Squash. How great it can be and how much you/they can get out of it.
Affect peoples choices!
Motivate them.
