Why is this Moorabbin Open so clearly marked in bold and red as a non sanctioned event, the only one I can see marked as such ?

The non-sanctioned would mean that it is not a VSF (Local Body) event. As it is run by an independent organisation.(Inform Connection)

Um.... I am not sure how that works as I know, Australias number 6 Jenson and number 10 White played off in the final of the mens and Australias number 6 Desira women won the womens event.
I also think the tournament is way bigger than the Victorian Open !

If the club runs competitions it would be most likely in-house or against other non-affiliated clubs; and generally those members would not have paid affiliation.
Non-affiliated players are supposed to be banned from entering in Association tournaments by rights.
Fair enough, 'cos if every person that played squash contributed a small fee to the overall benefit of the game, there would be more dollars going back into the game.
