The other disadvantage I had was coming back to the match, trying to fast forward to where I left off, and that did not work, so, yes, there has to be a more satisfactory way of viewing.
It seems there is a different camera crew at the various matches making for varied quality of production.
There are some good tournaments coming up if you look at the Squash News today so that will be a chance to have another crack at the technology stuff.

I have found streaming to be pot luck. Sometimes I great a great connection and I can watch a whole match no problem, other times it just stops or constantly reconnects making the whole viewing experience unpleasant and frustrating.
The downloading is a wee bit more expensive but you can watch the games over and over (if you so desire) and there are no issues with the internet connection once downloaded.
I also find that the quality of the picture varies quite a bit between tournaments, some are great and some are unwatchable.
However, even though I am criticising here I really am grateful for the site. I wouldn't get to see any pro squash otherwise.
My two cents on Palmer v Gaultier:
- Gaultier was the better player for 4 of the 5 games.
- Palmer deserves great credit for coming back from the dead.
- The shoe thing may have been gamesmanship, but I think it benefited gaultier more (the short break that is).
- The referee was really inconsistent with let, no let calls, especially in front left corner.
- I dont think Gaultier was deliberately blocking towards the end, he was just to tired/slow to clear.

Notice how length was more effective in this match forcing mistakes, because of the
"fear" of the front court play (nick drops).
On this forum I have heard the members say the pros do not worry about the serve, but, forgetting the game, and just focussing on various elements within the game, the players stood near the corner of the service box to return serve, and the serve generally hit the side wall opposite the player so that is still a good serve too (not much variety in serves though I thought).
By the way I am still having trouble with Real Player, so did as you suggested Daren, and when I got into the beginning of the 3rd game Real Player said there was a problem and I should contact the Customer Service then it went "connect" and that was that. Very frustrating I can tell you.

yeah, I noticed Gaultier's grip too. Exactly how you described it. I agree Palmers racquet work looked tidier, but Gaultier had WAY more deception - due to his grip ??
He's very similar to Power.

Re Palmer v Gaultier - I did think there was sufficient room between Gaultier and the ball for Palmer to make an effort to go around to return the ball in most cases. Yes Palmer is a big fellow and that has its pros and cons.
I meant to mention Gaultier's forehand - and we have had discussions about "how open the racket face" should be etc. - the grip on Gaultier's forehand was turned further around, a very exaggerated grip with the V formed by the thumb and forefinger pointing to the elbow (not the shoulder); this makes the swing to retrieve the ball more like a scoop on those low shots on the forehand back corner. Take another look and see what you reckon.
Forgetting about the game, and just looking at the racket work, Palmer had a much tidier racket prep and the racket seldom was hanging around his knees, whereas Gaultier would let his racket waggle around his knees as he proceeded to the T after striking the ball - not so good for quick response.
Match Mamut Open - Palmer v Nicol - and I have only watched the first two games, but looking at the second to me is what I call squash - a good mixture of shots, using the court well, putting heaps of pressure onto the opponent during the rallies, extending them physically to recover the ball, going for shots, deception and variety. Nicol took Palmer's length game away from him - good work Peter Nicol.
Now taking that a step further. A TV audience would pay to see that sort of squash - how can that type of play be encouraged? Reenforced? Repeated by the pros to highlight the skill of the game?

no worries rippa rit, the forum at psalive is a good help too
I tend to disagree with you guys about the match a bit. It looked to me like Gaultier was standing on his shots on the backhand - ie blocking. Peter Nicol mentioned it in the commentary too, apparently Jansher used to do the same. I thought some of Palmer's dives were to show that he could make it to the ball. But then Palmers no saint either, it all seems to get a bit desperate at that level with tactics and playing the ref etc.
I watched the infamous Gaultier Beachill match and to my eyes Gaultier was blocking in that match too. Its a pity that he does that coz hes such a good player, kinda puts me off him.
Shoes - Palmer was wearing Hi Tecs, I knew they were no good

Notice the continual length, as each time Gaulter went for a drop into the corner it mostly ended in a stroke or let. Yes, on some of the length, Gaulter's drives were a bit short, but generally, I do not believe he caused interference.
At 9/7 in the third game Gaulter looked like he had it in the bag, and Palmer went for 2 nicks (agreed, he had nothing to lose at this stage, so that was guttsey) That levelled it at 9/9.
Palmer's foxing must have been very frustrating for Gaultier, as Gaultier had to run around Palmer all the time (no pushing, and playing the player stuff), then the replaying of the point caused more energy, yet Gaultier seldom asking for a let, or faking around the floor.
Gaultier will have learnt a lot from that match. I do not understand this bit about the slippery shoes at all, the stalling, the changing to the odd shoes. This all took away from Palmer as he must have doubted his ability to win fairly and squarely.
I hope the Ref's watch the replay as it is worth a Referee Seminar.
Just a further point on this pushing stuff - I know of a final of an Australian Junior Championship where our player pushed the opponent who was positioned at the front wall, as they could not go for the shot/winner, and the Ref awarded the point against them for pushing. A hard Ref call but what is the difference at match ball, to any other point during a game might be the question? In this case, without the push, the player would have clearly been awarded the stroke.
Not sure that I want to watch that 5th game of the Palmer/Gaultier World Final - tough.

Speaking on Palmer-Gaultier match from Giza - in my opinion it will be the hall of fame for ages, and Greg Gaultier proven his skills and qualities of World Number one. I respect David Palmer's talent and whatsoever, but the way he won leaves the room for doubt. His tricks with shoes, falling down etc...

psalive seems great. I just signed up and downloaded the Palmer-Gaultier world open final. Talk about heart-breaking for Gaultier
Rita, if your having troubles with Realplayer taking over the playing of all your files, go to(in real player) Tools>Preferences>Content>Media Types>Manually Configure Media Types for Real Player.
Then you can choose which files you want real player to play (eg .rm files) and then let your usual media play take care of the rest.
When installing Real player you have to be careful to tick the box Manually Configure Media Types for Real Player, if you don't the default for it is to take over and play everything. But I geuss you learnt that the hard way.
EDIT - If you download Real Player, make sure its the latest version (version 10.5 i think) it says on PSALIVE that you need the latest version or some of the games wont play. maybe that was your original problem Rita.

So it was raining yesterday so I thought, ah ah a good time to have another look at this.
I registered, paid my 5 quid to psalive, so that was a bit of an ordeal but finally worked, then the download stuff....what a nitemare. After 3 hours I gave up as it was taking forever to do the communicating thing and I thought I would be there for 12 hours before I could watch it.
So, a few swear words later, I came back to the computer, went into Google put in a search "Real Player Gold" and it said pay or download free and so in 5 secs it was done, and the replay came on no worries.....can you believe that!!!
I watched 3 games of Palmer v Gaultier made a summary of the play, and will come back to it later and hopefully it will be bingo for the next replay I want to watch.
I wanted to share that with you just in case you do not have the required software to view the replays. Clicking the Real Player icon on psalive was not the answer as that link then wants to take over the whole bloody computer and reset stuff etc..so that was too scary as I was caught before doing this...and regretted it.
Anyone else have troubles with this stuff.?
