We have had some discussions on footwork and I can only post one picture per post.
There has been talk of who was better and when, etc.
These guys look extremely fit.
Zaman won a British Open in 1975, and the story quotes
"he was a player who consistently went for his shots, almost defying geometry with the angles that he achieved".
Unfortunately, most of these shots are set up, and we are not going to get the moving action shots that are possible with to-day's technology. How to add images to Members' Forum posts and replies here...

Viper that is a posed shot and probably from the back corner of a glass back court, and a dead ball.
If you need leverage you do need backswing to bring the ball to length from the back corner. The backswing is not as necesssary when it is hit like a bat out of he.. of course as the opponent has given more pace and more bounce to work with, and less time, to react and prepare.
You were asking about the stance so that is why I put these shots up for you to see.

The length of that backswing is sure a thing of the past.

Thanks for posting the pictures Rita, I must confess they do not make it any clearer regarding this open/closed footwork debate.
As you say I think a video is what is required.
