I have just read her book but I never saw her play, it seems she was a freakish as Bradman.

Why was she so good, so far above the rest ?

Has anyone actually had a hit with her ?

Does she still play ?

Where does she live and does she coach ?

Heather McKay was a colossus of the sport in the 60s and 70s, winning an awesome sixteen British Open titles from 1962 to 1977 and remaining undefeated for a total of seventeen years before retiring.

Viper - here is a link which will show a photo of the NSW v Qld Australian Teams final, so I can identify some really top NSW lady players from the 1970's and Heather is in that photo.  You may recognise some of the NSW player's names:-
  • Back row (l to r) Carol Murray NSW; Margaret Zachariah VIC; Heather Mackay NSW (now ACT); Sue Newman NSW; Marion Jackman QLD; Beryl Papst NSW; Jenny Irving NSW (now Qld).
  • Front row, (l to r) Marie Donnelly (dec); Mavis Nancarrow NSW (now Qld); Rita Paulos QLD; Dawn Moggagh NSW Selector.
Heather had perfect timing all the time...it seems, hit the ball very accurately, and after playing racket ball overseas came back with a bit more snap in her shots.  She was an exceptional competitor, and very tough (maybe you could say "mean" competitor! and she would admit that).
Heather played top tennis and top hockey. and became a racket ball champion in Canada.  While playing squash she represented Australia in Hockey.
After Heather turned pro she and Brian  went to Canada to coach for several years, and then was recruited back to Australia when the AIS got underway in Qld.
Heather was born and bred in Queanbeyan, ACT and now lives in Canberra.
In the last few years she has worked part-time for the AIS on special projects.
